After class today, my best yoga bud in the entire world, Ruth is taking me over to LA Fitness to talk to the person who hires the yoga teachers for all the clubs in this area. I am totally nervous about this meeting. Now, not only am I a Registered Yoga Teacher certified by the Yoga Alliance and CPR certified but I also worked at Curves for a year and a half. I've lost 95 pounds in my life. I'M FRIENDS WITH RICHARD SIMMONS!!!! It seems to me that I would be a great fit for them but still I am nervous. What if they don't like me? What if they do like me? The idea of walking up in front of 30 or 40 people and teaching is making me sick to my stomach. Why am I even doing this? Yeah, I need to find my self confidence. Where is it?

Where Does Self Confidence Come From?
It's the question of the day for me. Where does self confidence come from? Why don't I have any? Like today, for example. I am teaching at Juliana's which is always a wonderful experience. The students are always very complimentary when class is over. I've never heard one bad thing about my teaching but right now I'm sitting here nervous about teaching. Why don't I ever believe my own good press?

Ah, but you mistake self confidence with feeling fear. It's natural to worry about people liking you. It's scary to walk in amongst strangers who are there to judge you and of course you're afraid.
But your self confidence is there. You said it yourself. Whether you were afraid or not, you taught Juliana's class. That's confidence. If you weren't confident that your ability would carry you through, you wouldn't have stepped up to the plate.
You're going to walk into that fitness center and do your thing too. In the end, I know for sure that they will love you, but you are not sure of it right now. Your confidence will drive you to take care of what you need to do.
There are few things I know for sure, but I know that you ARE confident, and are only responding right now to new situations that you're not familiar with. We're hard wired for that. But you overcome them them every time.
I love you,
Laura
OMG...I swear..you and I were on the same wave length..Because I wrote a post that hit at 3am your time this morning and wondered where we learned the negative thoughts that formed our self esteem/confidence
Laura, how did you get so smart? You always know exactly what to say to make me feel better. Now that you point it out I see that it is total unadulterated fear that I am feeling. It's not a nice feeling.
I did walk into LA and put in an application we will see what happens. The first thing the LA person said to me was "No handstands, no plows, no omming, no chanting, nothing spritual, don't touch anyone unless you ask first". It made we wonder if this is yoga at all. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Love you more,
Claudia
Ang,
Two great minds that thing alike. We need to retrain that damned puppy. That's what it's all about.
Love ya,
Claudia

Just go in and do your own thing without what they don't want. Then,
Network. Network. NETWORK!
Let your "yoga" students know that if they like you at LA Fitness, they will LOVE you at your own studio. You don't have to hit them over the head with it... it will eventually come up in conversation and when it does, you don't have to worry. You cannot legitimately be accused of stealing clients.
And also, many people belong to a gym and a yoga studio in tandem. I'm about to be one of them!
Just keep at what you're doing; it was what you were always meant to do.
